Not all superheroes wear capes—some extend a helping hand (or claw!) to reptiles in need. Reptile Heroes are extraordinary individuals who open their hearts to adopt the overlooked and forgotten. These are the animals who face unique challenges—be it age, health conditions, or physical differences—that often make them harder to place in forever homes.

By adopting one of these special reptiles, you’re not only giving them the love and care they deserve, but also making a meaningful statement: every life has value, no matter the circumstances.

Meet The Heroes and their pets!

Mr Richardson and Bob

Say hello to our very first reptile hero, Mr Richardson. He to adopt Bob, the 18 month old Horsfield Tortoise.

Bob suffers from a lack of calcium Vitamin A, so his shell is not as firm as we'd like it to be. Correcting this takes time and care, and without Mr Richardson stepping up to the long term task, Bob would have been with us for a very long time.

With Mr Richardson's care and kindness, Bob will make a full recovery. Mr Richardson tells us he is looking forward to Bob living in his family hopefully for generations!

Wren and Mushu

Meet Wren! Wren came to the rescue a little while ago looking for a new companion. She became overwhelmed with the amount of animals needing homes. She fell in love with Mushu, an elderly bearded dragon with hip dysplasia. Wren expressed her heartache over the fact Mushu is overlooked because of his age and health conditions.

And so, after going away to sort her enclosure, Wren came to adopt Mushu today! Even though he's an old man and might not be with her very long, her empathy for animals and great big heart means that Mushu can now live out his days with her love and care.

We think you're AMAZING, Wren! Thank you.

Ethan and Bolder

Meet Ethan! Ethan came to the rescue with his auntie a little while ago. While Auntie Jill looked at tortoises, Ethan was busy falling in love with the bearded dragons. After going away to make sure his setup was perfect, and doing lots of research, Ethan came back today to adopt Bolder.

Bolder is an elderly dragon, with some deformity of his upper and lower jaw, due to Metabolic Bone Disease.

This didn't worry Ethan at all, in fact it made him love Bolder more! He couldn't believe Bolder was often overlooked because he wasn't pretty.

Although Bolder is an older dragon, we just know his last years will be lived in luxury with Ethan. It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Jill and Jasmine

Meet Jill and her new pal, Jasmine! Jasmine is a Hermann's tortoise that came into the rescue as Jasper... after some x-rays at the vets to investigate a deformed shell, we discovered he was most certainly a she!

Jasmine's deformed shell is from poor care in a previous life, leaving her with an unusual shape and a deformed pelvis. It doesn't stop Jasmine though - and certainly didn't stop her new mum, Jill, from falling in love.

Reptile Heroes like Jill are invaluable to animals like Jasmine. Often overlooked because of health or looks, Retile Heroes go the extra mile to provide homes for animals that might otherwise stay in the rescue for a very long time.

Jake and Houdini

Meet Jake and his new pet corn snake, Houdini.

Jake recently came for a taster session at the rescue and instantly fell in love with Houdini. He's a first time reptile keeper and we think he's smashing it!

Houdini was in the reptile hero program because he has a benign growth on his tail, making him less appealing to potential adopters. Corn snakes are by far and away our most surrendered animal, with large amounts on our waiting list to come in to the rescue. Without conscientious adopters like Jake and his mum, Houdini might have been stuck at the rescue for a very, very long time.
