Tortoise Adoption Process

Why It’s Different:

Due to rising surrender rates, regulatory changes, and widespread misinformation, Richmond Exotics has introduced a dedicated, two option adoption process for tortoises. These complex, long-lived reptiles require specialist care and serious commitment. Our tailored approach ensures prospective owners are fully prepared, helping us safeguard welfare and prevent future rehoming.

Option 1 - Pre Ownership Guidance and Assessment Form

- Visit the rescue to meet the tortoises and collect your Pre-Ownership Guidance Booklet and Assessment Form.
- Take them home, read through the guidance, and complete the form at your own pace.
- Once you’ve sent the form back to us, we’ll have a friendly chat about your answers and—if all’s well—you’re ready to adopt!
- This option is free, and the standard adoption fee applies depending on the species of tortoise you choose.

Option 2 - Tortoise Pre Ownership Workshop

- Join us at the rescue for a face-to-face workshop covering everything you need to know:
  - Heating, lighting, substrate, diet, enrichment, and species-specific care.
- The workshop costs £55, and if you choose to adopt afterwards, your adoption fee is halved.
